# Storytelling Frameworks for Pitch Decks

Six proven narrative structures adapted for crypto startup pitches. Choose one as your deck's backbone — it determines slide order, emphasis, and emotional arc.

## 1. PAS — Problem, Agitate, Solve

**Best for:** Hackathon pitches, products solving obvious pain points, early-stage with strong problem insight but weak traction.

| Stage | What to do | Crypto Example |
|-------|-----------|----------------|
| **Problem** | State the undeniable core issue | "Solana agents can't pay each other without a human co-signer" |
| **Agitate** | Heighten stakes — what happens if unsolved? | "That means every AI agent transaction requires a human in the loop. At 10M agent actions/day, that's 10M bottlenecks." |
| **Solve** | Your product as the definitive fix | "AgentPay: autonomous on-chain settlement for AI agents. No human required." |

**Slide mapping:** Slides 1-2 = Problem + Agitate. Slide 3-4 = Solve + Why Crypto. Slide 5 = Demo proving the solve.

**Why it works:** Creates emotional tension before the release. The audience WANTS your solution by the time you show it.

## 2. 6-Part Investor Narrative Arc

**Best for:** VC fundraises, accelerator applications, any pitch where you're asking for money. The strongest framework for fundraising specifically.

| Part | Content | Crypto Example |
|------|---------|----------------|
| **The Shift** | Massive market change happening now | "AI agents are moving from read-only to transactional. 50M agent wallets by 2027." |
| **The Enemy** | The obstacle preventing the world from adapting | "Existing wallet infra assumes humans. No SDK for agent-native custody." |
| **The Tool** | Your solution as the weapon | "We built the first agent-native wallet SDK on Solana — custody, signing, and settlement in one package." |
| **The Proof** | Traction that validates the thesis | "120 agents onboarded. 50K transactions. $2.1M settled. 15% week-over-week growth." |
| **The Future** | The 10-year vision if you succeed | "Every AI agent has a Solana wallet. $100B in autonomous agent commerce." |
| **The Invitation** | Your ask, framed as joining a movement | "We're raising $1.5M to be the default wallet SDK for the agent economy. Join us." |

**Slide mapping:** Each part = 1-2 slides. The Proof section expands for VC audiences (traction + market + business model).

**Why it works:** Investors want to fund inevitabilities. This framework positions your startup as riding a wave, not creating one.

## 3. Before-After-Bridge (BAB)

**Best for:** Product-led startups with strong demos, visual transformations, "aha moment" products.

| Stage | Content | Crypto Example |
|-------|---------|----------------|
| **Before** | Vivid, specific current pain | "Alice wants to swap USDC→SOL. She opens 4 DEX tabs, compares prices, worries about slippage, manually approves 3 transactions. Takes 8 minutes." |
| **After** | Friction-free future state | "Alice types 'swap 100 USDC to SOL' in one input. Best route found, one click, done in 400ms. She saved $3.20 vs doing it manually." |
| **Bridge** | Your product as the only path | "That's [ProductName]. One interface, all Solana liquidity, one click." |

**Slide mapping:** Slide 1-2 = Before (with screenshots/data of current pain). Slide 3-4 = After (with demo/screenshots of your product). Slide 5 = Bridge (how it works technically).

**Why it works:** Contrast is the most powerful persuasion tool. The gap between Before and After IS your value proposition.

## 4. Hero's Journey (Customer as Hero)

**Best for:** Consumer products, user-centric platforms, products with strong testimonials or community stories.

**Critical rule:** The customer is the hero. Your startup is the mentor/guide. You are Gandalf, not Frodo.

| Stage | Pitch Mapping | Crypto Example |
|-------|--------------|----------------|
| **Ordinary World** | The status quo before your product | "Maria is a freelance designer in Buenos Aires. She invoices in USD but loses 8% to wire fees and waits 3-5 days." |
| **Call to Adventure** | The problem disrupts the status quo | "Her biggest client switches to crypto-only payments. She needs to figure out wallets, swaps, and off-ramps." |
| **The Mentor Appears** | Your product enters as the guide | "[ProductName] gives Maria a Solana wallet with auto-convert to local currency. Client pays in USDC, Maria receives pesos in her bank." |
| **Tests & Trials** | Show the product handling real challenges | "Demo: Maria receives payment, auto-swaps, off-ramps. Under 30 seconds, $0.02 in fees." |
| **Transformation** | The user's life is measurably better | "Maria now invoices 12 clients in crypto. She saves $480/month in fees and gets paid instantly." |
| **Return with the Elixir** | Vision + scale | "There are 1.6 billion freelancers worldwide. We're starting with Latin America." |

**Slide mapping:** Each stage = 1-2 slides. Best when you have a real user story to tell.

## 5. Pixar Framework

**Best for:** Complex technical products that need to be explained simply, enterprise/infrastructure pitches, products where the "how" is hard to grasp.

Use this formula — each line is approximately one slide:

| Beat | Pitch Mapping | Crypto Example |
|------|-------------|----------------|
| "Once upon a time..." | Status quo | "Once upon a time, every Solana DeFi protocol built its own oracle integration from scratch." |
| "Every day..." | Repeated pain | "Every day, devs spent 2 weeks integrating price feeds, debugging staleness, and handling edge cases." |
| "One day..." | Catalyst / Why Now | "One day, Pyth launched pull oracles and Token Extensions enabled programmable transfers." |
| "Because of that..." | Your solution | "Because of that, we built OracleKit — a one-line SDK that handles all oracle integrations with automatic failover." |
| "Because of that..." | Cascading value | "Because of that, protocols ship 2 weeks faster and never have stale price bugs." |
| "Until finally..." | Impact / Vision | "Until finally, every new Solana protocol launches with battle-tested price feeds on day one." |

**Why it works:** Makes complex infrastructure feel inevitable and simple. The "because of that" chain creates logical momentum.

## 6. AIDA — Attention, Interest, Desire, Action

**Best for:** Marketing presentations, product launches, pitches to non-technical audiences. Note: Some experts argue AIDA lacks structural tension for high-stakes fundraising — better for marketing than investor pitches.

| Stage | Slides (in a 10-slide deck) | Content |
|-------|----------------------------|---------|
| **Attention** | Slide 1 | Surprising statistic, bold claim, or striking visual |
| **Interest** | Slides 2-6 | Problem depth, market data, "why now", solution, demo |
| **Desire** | Slides 7-9 | Traction proof, team credibility, social proof |
| **Action** | Slide 10 | Clear ask with specific amount and use of funds |

**Ratio:** 1:5:3:1 allocation of slides. The bulk of the deck builds Interest.

## Choosing the Right Framework

```
Is your strongest asset a working demo?
  → YES: Before-After-Bridge
  → NO: Continue
Are you raising money from VCs?
  → YES: 6-Part Investor Arc
  → NO: Continue
Is the problem obvious and emotional?
  → YES: PAS
  → NO: Continue
Do you have a compelling user story?
  → YES: Hero's Journey
  → NO: Continue
Is your product technically complex?
  → YES: Pixar Framework
  → NO: AIDA (default)
```

## Combining Frameworks

You can layer frameworks:
- **PAS for the opening** (Slides 1-3) + **6-Part Arc for the structure** (Slides 4-12)
- **Hero's Journey as the narrative thread** with **Sequoia slides as the container**
- **Pixar for the problem/solution** (Slides 2-4) + **BAB for the demo** (Slide 5-6)

The narrative framework is the story. The slide structure is the container. They work together.
